Lund clearly decided that "fishing boat" shouldn't mean "boring boat." With a massive library of 58 colors, they've given us everything from the deep Cobalt Blue Metallic to the rugged Wilderness Green and the flashy Blazing Copper Metallic. Whether you're rocking the classic Lund Red or the stealthy Graphite Gray, they really went for it. It's a lot of variety for a fleet designed to catch walleye, but hey-looking good at the dock is half the battle.

What to Watch For

Since your Lund spends its life battling waves and docks, the paint takes a unique kind of beating. Keep an eye out for "the bubbles"-small raised spots that tend to pop up around the rivets, transom edges, or scupper holes. This is usually just the aluminum having a little disagreement with the water (oxidation), but it's something you can easily touch up before it spreads. Also, check your keel; that's where the trailer and the beach like to "borrow" your paint.

Finding your code: Unlike a car, there isn't a handy sticker on a door jamb. You'll want to find your HIN (Hull Identification Number), which is usually stamped into a metal plate on the starboard (right) side of the transom. Give that number to a dealer, or match your year and model to the official Lund color charts to be sure you're grabbing the right shade of "Silver Stone."

Lund paint-especially the metallics-can be a bit on the thin side, which means it likes to run if you're too heavy-handed. When using your touch-up brush, remember that three thin layers are your best friend. If you're working on a vertical surface like the hull side, use just a tiny amount of paint on the tip of the brush. If you see "white powder" in a chip, that's just oxidation; wipe it clean with a bit of vinegar and water first so your new paint has a fresh surface to grip. Shake that bottle for a full 60 seconds to wake up those metallic sparkles!
